Hi, my name is Natalie!
I am a fiber artist, pattern designer, quilter, sewing instructor, and fabric-obsessed human. My interest in sewing began, like many, when I was young. I began sewing in earnest as an angsty teen, fiddling around on my grandma’s machine, or any machine I could get a hold of. I started self taught, which meant I was reinventing the wheel quite a bit, doing things wrong, and not paying attention to any rules. It was just the outlet I needed!
I attended Maryland Institute College of Art, following my interest in soft sculpture and fashion design. College was where I began to hone my skills and get serious about construction and pattern drafting. I majored in Fiber Art with a focus in Experimental Fashion and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts.
I moved back to the west coast following my graduation from college and began working at Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics in Berkeley, CA. From sales associate, I eventually became a buyer and manager of the store, with a bit of marketing and merchandising thrown in for good measure. I worked at Stonemountain for about 8 years and consider it my post graduate education because of the amount of textile and sewing related knowledge I absorbed while I was there. This is something I love about sewing and textiles: there is ALWAYS more to learn.
