Make a Padded Zip Pouch
Sewing Level: Advanced Beginner and Beyond
Class Duration: About an hour
Skills: Drafting a custom pattern, inserting a zipper
Pattern: Draft your own during the class
Fabric/Notions:
You will need a working sewing machine for this project
All-purpose polyester thread, my favorite is Gutermann Mara 100
Schmetz Microtex 80/12 sewing machine needles
Nylon coil zipper (if you’re unsure the length of your pouch opening you can purchase one that is 16-22” long and cut it down to size)
Fabric requirements depend on the size of zip pouch you want to make, but you’ll need around 0.5 to 0.75 yards each of the following:
Main fabric - lightweight canvas or quilting cotton
Lining fabric - quilting cotton
Low loft quilt batting of your choice, I use cotton
Description: In this beginner friendly class, I walk you through drafting a padded zip pouch that you can customize to any measurements depending on what you want to store in it. I used a cotton/linen canvas for the main fabric, quilting cotton for the lining and a cotton quilt batting. A nylon coil zipper is best for something like this and if you're unsure of the length you need, buy the longest available to shorten later. I love these pouches and being able to customize my organization to look like me and not like boring office supplies! I hope you enjoy it and please let me know if you have any questions!! Happy New Year!
