Upcycled Horseshoe Jeans
Sewing Level: Advanced Beginner and Beyond
Class Duration: About an hour
Skills: Drafting a custom pattern piece, altering an existing garment
Pattern: Draft your own during the class
Fabric/Notions:
You will need a working sewing machine for this project
All-purpose polyester thread, my favorite is Gutermann Mara 100
Schmetz Microtex 80/12 or Denim 80/12 sewing machine needles
A pair of jeans you would like to alter, ideally 100% cotton, but jeans with a small amount of stretch will work too.
Fabric requirements depend on the size of panel you wish to add to your jeans, but 1 yard of cotton canvas or twill should be enough.
Optional: 1 yard of muslin or scrap fabric to make a test panel before cutting into your final fabric.
Description: Extend the life of your jeans by adding a custom panel to the outseam. In this class I will show you how to draft a panel and to sew it into your existing jeans. We will also add a dart to the inseam at the knee to create an exaggerated horseshoe shape. This process changes the shape of the leg and can also upsize your jeans that are too snug. This is a quick and easy project that is great for beginners.
